IE 6 must die

Well, I'd read articles regarding how designer have faced problem in IE6 and I'd not taken notice of this until today. Today I'd used the whole day so that one of the website that I'd designed and coded would look great also in IE and more importantly in IE6. But even after the day ended, I've to admit that it still does not look the way that I wanted it to be.

Writing CSS for different browser was kinda ok for me. But writing the CSS file for the same browser but different versions, oh my gosh, it was quite a pain in my behind. It does not feel good when your design does not look good in all of the major browsers.

We as developers use the latest of browsers and the latest of technologies. But we have to think what the normal people think and use what the normal people in general use. Still the majority of the share for the browser goes to IE and out of that a significant number of web users still use the IE6 browsers. They must have quite an ease to go through the content in their browser (IE6). But as a designer, I can feel the pain the development team had to go through for the development of that website for IE6 compatibility.

I'm not saying that I'm backing off of designing my web page for IE6 compatibility, but the time consumed for the development for the particular browser is just too much. Too much unnecessary time is wasted of developers all around the globe for this. So I too support the cause, The cause of saying IE6 must die.

Here are some of the links which I support for this cause: ()

Hello say hi to 2009

This one I've been thinking about writing for quite some time. Actually it was about a year ago. Myself being a designer, I don't just browse the net; I browse it thoroughly. I look at almost every part of a web page, i.e., from top to bottom. That is right, I do look at the bottom part too, the footer to be exact.

Today I'm going to list some sites here who have not updated their footer, the copyright date to be exact. Today is January 30, 2009 and sites listed here have not uploaded them.

Following are the list of some of the top global sites who have not updated their date:

Following are the list of the top Nepali sites who have not updated their date:

Note: This page was created so as to show some small errors in in photos. We have uploaded few of them. We are not trying to tell them about his but, if corrected will definitely enhance your site.

Note: The sites selected here were randomly and handpicked with the help of Alexa.com.

IP Address and Host Name

Gosh, man I'd been trying to display the IP address of any computer and had been looking like hell all over the net for this.

At last I found a good one. This script captures the IP address of the person filling in your form and submits it to you as part of the form. The script works The client IP address is stored in variable "VIH_HostIP". The client host name, if available, is stored in variable "VIH_HostName".

Thanks for the script. You can check out the link here too.

Linux popularity across the globe & Nepal

Recently, I came across this article about the growing Linux popularity around the globe and I was a bit surprised to see Nepal's name also being included in that list. According to their study, there are a significant number of Red Hat and Fedora users in Nepal. This may have also due to growing number of training centers for Red Hat and Fedora, and also for their global certification which is valid all over the world as well.

This is something to be proud of. Since Linux is one of the stable operating systems that you get in the market. It is even better than the market giant Microsoft. But due less training centers and popularity than Microsoft, it has less popularity in the general public.

You can read the whole article in here.
